Star Wars in Concert
Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 6:59PM On November 7, Nick (@BobaFettucini) and I attended Star Wars in Concert in Charlotte. We arrived at what we thought was early but turns out the website and tickets were all wrong. Doors apparently opened at 6. We checked out the souvenirs quickly before sitting down. We had great seats right above the floor seating. The venue was a sea of Star Wars fans... and small children. Obnoxious small children that is.
The show itself was amazing. It was hosted by Anthony Daniels the voice of C3PO, which was apparently something that the people in our section did not know. The show was told by character. The scene and music were composed around telling the story of that character. Therefore, the scenes did not go in order of the films but were meshed together. The lights and other elements really brought the show together. However, the show only focused on a handful of overly popular Star Wars characters. Had they have had any other characters the audience might not have responded well to them but then again most of these people didn't even know who Anthony Daniels was. More importantly, the orchestra was phenomenal. Despite the great light show and montage that fit with the music, you could close your eyes and just listen to the orchestra. The music was perfect and far more impressive than any montage. Honestly I could've sat there and just watched the musicians perform the music and still left happy.
The show was also to feature an exhibit, and from what I understood, would be somewhat big and feature original set props. I had seen many pictures on their site and from others. Honestly this was something I was most excited for. I couldn't wait to see Stormtrooper armor and my favorite Boba Fett. Too bad I was extremely disappointed to find an extremely small area of the venue featuring about a handful of props. There were no signs directing you towards the props and they were poorly advertised. We walked around in order to locate them, during the show. How could there be no Stormtropper armor or Boba Fett!? This was ridiculous. I had clearly seen Boba in others pictures. Not only that, but they had Plo Koon and Kit Fisto. Really? Two characters that I of course know but these people didn't even know Anthony Daniels. Srsly, wtf. I was happy with what they had. Thank god for Darth Vader. Still, I was really disappointed with their lack of information about the exhibit because it seems they had just pulled a handful of random props and just set them up in some corner of the venue. If anything they should've advertised where they would be with signage at the venue and at least made it known that not ALL the same props would be at each shower. However they gave off the impression that it would be a large selection of props. I'm really butt hurt over this lack of Fett.
Overall, the show was amazing and definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. All elements of the show really worked together to make it such an experience. However the miscommunication regarding the exhibit and the screaming children interrupting the music did make it a bit frustrating. Still though this is a show every Star Wars fan needs to attend!

Woa, too bad you couldn't enjoy the experience fully, but how much would I have given to enjoy the music! Last year I was lucky enough to attend the Star Wars convention in Sao Paulo, Brasil, while I was on company work. I'm still amazed of all the props and materials they displayed, including the original fighter that Anakin used on the 3rd movie, and the original designs for the first trilogy sets, which I remembered from a magazine I bought in the 80's!
